Hospital prices,
finally in the open.

Each site is free, searchable, and built from that state’s hospital filings.

How it works

From federal rule to searchable tool, in three steps.

Federal mandate

Every hospital must publish

Since 2021, 45 CFR § 180.50 has required every U.S. hospital to publish the negotiated rates they accept from each insurer.

We collect & standardize

Messy files, clean data

We download the machine-readable files, normalize their wildly different formats, and load them into a searchable database — one state at a time.

You search & compare

Free, no account

Pick a procedure. See what every hospital charges your insurer, side by side. Estimate your out-of-pocket cost before you ever get a bill.

Why we built this

Since 2021, every hospital in the United States has been legally required to publish the negotiated rates they accept from each insurer. The rule works on paper. In practice, the files are buried on hospital websites, formatted inconsistently, and often unreadable without a data pipeline behind them.

Civic Health Data LLC is an independent company that builds that pipeline. We download the machine-readable files hospitals are required to publish, standardize them, and turn them into tools anyone can search. We don’t estimate, model, or adjust any rate — every price shown is exactly what the hospital published.

We’re not affiliated with any hospital, health system, insurer, or government agency. Funding comes from employer data subscriptions, not from the entities whose prices we publish.
